Brother Introspective

In honor of recruitment this week, we decided to ask our Brothers and Alumni to get a little introspective by asking them three questions.  The responses we got speak for themselves.

Why I Joined Phi Sigma Pi

"I joined PSP is because when I first came to ISU I didn't know many people here, many of my high school friends moved or went to school elsewhere. I really wanted to be involved in something as well as make some friends. && now some of me best friends are from PSP!" -Jessica Bychowski (Brother)

"I joined PSP my junior year because I felt that I was missing a sense of community at ISU. I had always wanted to join a greek organization, but I was unsure about social sororities because of the cost and because I was afraid I wouldn't fit in. When I decided to rush, I was extremely nervous. I'm a quiet person by nature, and I was worried that I wouldn't fit in. But soon the nerves faded away as I realized that this was a group of people a lot like me. I felt so comfortable and happy that I decided to take myself out of my comfort zone."- Sam Hennessy (Brother)

"The people! Everyone was so nice and welcoming!" -Ellie Seitzinger (Brother)

"I joined PSP because I wanted to get more involved at ISU. I wasn't really interested in the social sororities/fraternities but I liked the idea of having a close knit group and the fact that it was a social, academic, and service organization all in one." -Leann Risten (Brother)

"Joining PSP was the greatest decision I made here at ISU. I was a middle of the year transfer student so it was very difficult for me to make friends. I heard about PSP from a friend that is in it at Eastern Illinois University and she told me I should rush. I am so happy that I did! What I think is great about PSP is that since we are all from different majors you are meeting people that you might not have met without PSP... and I can’t imagine not having this group of people in my life because everyone in PSP is amazing and I have made so many great friends!" -Katelyn Baker (Brother)

"I joined PSP to meet new people/friends. I transferred to ISU and only new a few people. I received an email about PSP and thought it was something I might be interested in. I went to the info night and the rest is history. I met so many new people who became life long friends. Even after graduating, I keep in contact with some of the people from PSP." -Allie Nixon (Alumni)

"I joined PSP because I wanted to make ISU feel more like home. I rushed the Spring of my freshman year. During that year, I lived on the science floor of Hewett and met a lot of great people in my major, but I wanted to make even more friends."- Brittany Herzovi (Alumni)

What is your favorite memory in PSP so far?

"Interviewing with all the brothers during rush was fun, and that's one of my favorite memories." -Michael Crawford (Brother)

"Favorite memory is meeting my girlfriend for the first time" -Kyle DeVault (Brother)

"Laser tag!! That was the most fun event I'm ever been to" -Heather Sells (Brother)

"Once I rushed, I started seeing Brothers everywhere. It was an awesome feeling and as a freshman, I think it's really important to meet as many people as possible so that ISU doesn't feel so huge. But overall, I think my favorite memories are just the lifelong friendships. I've met so many amazing people through this organization and so many of them have enhanced my life for the better. I really can't imagine the last four years of my life without PSP" -Brittany Herzovi (Alumni)

What do you like most about PSP?

"What I like most about PSP are the people. Everyone I have met, in our own chapter and nationally, inspires me to be a better person. Brothers give me ideas for our chapter and also just for my daily life. Everyone is so passionate and dedicated that it makes me want to do more and be a better person. I actually realized just last week that everyone I am currently friends with at ISU is the product of a PSP relationship." -Savannah Little (Brother)

"The thing I like most about PSP is how no matter what major someone is or where they are from, we all come together as one fraternity and family that is there for one another. I love this Greek organization so much!" -Mike Miletich  (Brother)

"I like that there is always something happening, people want to do good things and I like that we can all come together and make improvements in ourselves/each other/the community" -Brieda Hill (Brother)

"The thing I like most about PSP is my brothers. I couldn't have asked to be surrounded by a more caring and motivated group of individuals, each with unique personalities." Kelly Bernt (Brother)

"I like the tripod the most. We get a good balance of a social, service, and leadership fraternity all rolled into one!" -Ellen Schumacher (Brother)

"With PSP, you can truly be yourself and no one cares. We are all "goofy" in our own ways, and that is what makes PSP--PSP. We all add/have added a small touch of ourselves to create a family that will last a life time. When in need, you always will have a "brother" to talk to!" -Allie Nixon (Alumni)

"I am an only child so having 40some brothers is a dream come true. Being trans I never really feel comfortable in groups, I feel judged and discarded. But PSP really is a family, and no matter your background, race, beliefs, gender, sexuality, ideals you ARE going to be welcomed with open arms. PSP is a family, and it's a good one."- Aaron Edwards (Brother)
